Welcome To Glen Ed Science

I’m starting this blog to begin sharing my ideas and documents to fellow teachers. I hope for this to become a platform for sharing my sometimes-unique views on the education of students. While I currently teach primarily physics, I am also certified in both Illinois and Missouri to teach all strands of science. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. I have a graduate certificate in physics education from University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Finally, I have a master’s degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. I have had a number of unique teaching opportunities. I started in an impoverished inner-city school in Madison, IL and then transferred to a charter school in St. Louis. From there I moved to a rural school in Macoupin County Illinois called Southwestern School District. A school so rural that we didn’t have air conditioning in the building. Finally, I ended up at my forever school district, the district where I student taught and where I live in Edwardsville, IL. All of this to tell you that I’ve taught everywhere from inner city schools to a rural school, and finally to an affluent suburban school. This has given me a unique perspective on the needs of students in different parts of the country, along with an idea of the inner workings of different school districts. I’ve used this experience and education to build a number of resources that I want to share with you!

What’s up with the name Glen Ed Science. I live in Glen Carbon, IL which is a small town that is very much entwined with Edwardsville, the larger city to our north. We are both part of the Edwardsville District 7 School District. We are so entwined and intermingled that often instead of saying Glen Carbon or Edwardsville, we just say we are from the Glen Ed area! We are also often called Goshen, from the biblical land of Goshen, a nickname given by the area’s founders.
